"Finnish Ace Hans Wind"

On 24 Janurary, 1943, Lt. Hans Wind of 1/LeLv. 24 was leading a flight of Brewster Buffalos on a patrol over the eastern end of the Baltic Sea when he spotted Russian aircraft in the landing pattern at Retusaari airfield located on Kronstadt Island, just west of Leningrad. Diving down at low level he shot down a Poliparkov I-16 which was trying to land. The Russian plane crashed into the forest a short distance from the airfield. Hans Wind finished the war the second highest scoring Finnish ace with 75 victories, and the highest scoring Brewster Buffalo pilot with 39 victories in that type.
