In the early morning of 5 October, 1943 Ensign Robert
Duncan became the first U. S. Navy Hellcat pilot to down a Japanese plane
when he shot down two Mitsubishi "Zeros" in quick succession over Wake
Island. He was also the first pilot from the aircraft carrier U.S.S.
Yorktown to score an aerial victory against the Japanese. |
