"JG54"

Max Ostermann in an action on the Eastern Front sometime in 1942.
Ju-87 Stuka dive bombers have just attacked Soviet installations on the shore of a frozen lake in the background.Stukas needed fighter escorts on most missions because they were slow and not very effective in fending off attacks from enemy fighters. Ostermann, flying an Me-109 F-4, has shot down a Soviet I-153 biplane intent on destroying the Stukas. The Messerchmitts are from the famous JG54 "Green Hearts".
