"JG2"

On 23 November, 1942, a flight of four B-17 F's was returning from a bombing raid over St. Nazaire, France, where several other bombers were lost in action. The B-17's were intercepted over the Brest peninsula by Focke-Wulf 190's of III/JG2 which made a head on firing pass at the bombers. The attack was led by Egon Mayer, already an ace, who was credited with downing one B-17 on this occasion. His aircraft is in the foreground and it is an Fw-190 A-4. One of the Focke-Wulf's, "white 10", was shot down by the B-17's.
