"Aussie Diggers"

During the North African Campaign of 1940 -41, British and Australian forces fought to drive the Italian Army out of their strongholds along the  Mediterranean coast. One such battle against the Italian garrison at Bardia during Jan 3-5, 1941.  Here Australian "diggers" from the 2/1st Batallion are preparing for the assault.  In the background, Bren carriers and infantry are moving through the barbed wire perimeter which has been opened up earlier with explosives.
